Green, Bakima recognized by COBRA Magazine

PASADENA, Texas – Sophomore Jazmine Green and freshman Marie-Pierre Bakima have been recognized by COBRA Magazine for their success on the volleyball court during the 2011 season. Both were named to the COBRA Magazine All-Southwest Region team, and were COBRA All-National honorable mention selections.

Green, a 5-10 outside hitter from Houston (Cy Falls HS) was the 2011 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIV player of the year, after guiding San Jac to its seventh-consecutive conference title and seventh-straight appearance in the NJCAA national tournament. For her SJC career, Green averaged 3.46 kills, 2.91 digs, and 0.62 blocks per set. She had a two-year career hitting percentage of .296 behind 749 total kills. She was also named to the Region XIV all-conference first team, and is a two-time NJCAA national tournament All-tournament team selection.

Bakima, a 5-9 outside hitter from Nogent-sur-Oise, France (Lycee Emmanuel Mounier), earned Region XIV newcomer of the year honors. She was second on the team in kills per set with a 2.83 average, and was third on the squad in digs per set with a 3.29 mark. Bakima was also named to the NJCAA national tournament All-tournament team.

San Jac (32-5) finished fourth at the 2011 NJCAA national tournament. It was the sixth-consecutive top-10 national finish under Head Coach Sharon Nelson’s tutelage.
