San Jac pitcher named to the 2016 NJCAA National Team

HOUSTON - Jorge Fernandez of San Jacinto College has been selected to participate in the 82nd National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series. The right handed pitcher is one of 26 players selected for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Team.

“Jorge is an outstanding baseball player and person,” said San Jacinto College Baseball Head Coach Tom Arrington, who has been with the program for 16 seasons. “I am very proud of Jorge and excited to see him represent San Jacinto College and the NJCAA as an All Star.”

From July 29 through August 13 the NJCAA National Team will face both elite and amateur teams from all over the nation. The tournament will be held at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. For more information about the NBC World Series, visit nbcbaseball.com.

Fernandez, a 5-10 sophomore from Del Rio (Del Rio HS), transferred from Texas State University to play for San Jacinto College. Last season he had 10 saves and an ERA of 0.48. He had 29 strikeouts, averaging 13.98 per game in his 18.2 innings pitched. The pitcher also made the Dean’s List in the fall and spring semesters of the 2015-2016 school year.
