Sa and Er sign National Letters of Intent

Men’s basketball student-athletes to continue education at four-year universities

PASADENA, Texas – San Jac men’s basketball players Candido Sa (Lisbon, Portugal / Colegio Bartolomeou Dias) and Ilker Er (Istanbul, Turkey / Arlington Country Day) have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and basketball careers at major four-year universities. 



Sa has signed to play at Rutgers University in the Big Ten Conference, and Er has signed to the University of Maine in the America East Conference. Both players earned All-Conference honors for the 2015-2016 season. Sophomore forward Sa was the second leading shot blocker in the nation with 68 against conference opponents, and 123 overall. He averaged 9.9 points and 7.7 rebounds against Region XIV opponents.

Er, a sophomore guard, averaged 10.1 points per game, 11.6 against conference opponents, placing him 32nd in the league. His 8.6 rebounds per game against Region XIV opponents was sixth in the league, and at 7.5 rebounds per game against all opponents, he ranked 10th in the nation.



“We’re very proud to see Candido and Ilker advance in their collegiate basketball careers as they sign on to play for universities,” said Head Coach Scott R. Gernander. “They were two of our leaders on the team this season, and their hard work helped us to advance to the semifinals of the Region XIV tournament.”



San Jac finished the 2015-2016 season with a 22-10 overall record, 12-7 in Region XIV play, advancing to the semifinals of the Region XIV tournament in Lufkin. Tryouts for the 2016-2017 season are scheduled for Saturday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Anders Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College Central Campus.
