Toyota T-TEN students graduate with ASE certifications and jobs

PASADENA, Texas – The San Jacinto College automotive department recently recognized graduates of the Toyota Technician Training & Education Network (T-TEN) program, all of whom obtained dealership job placement prior to the May 2015 commencement.

Toyota T-TEN instructors and dealership representatives gathered in Kemah, Texas, to recognize students for their accomplishments and present T-TEN graduation plaques, ASE Master and L1 awards, and other specialized awards. Sarah Heasty was recognized for achieving ASE Master Certification and Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification (L1), a rare feat among college students.

"Usually, it takes people with years of experience to pass the L1 exam," said Chris Tran, Toyota T-TEN program coordinator. "I can't recall the last time we had a student pass it."

To become eligible to take the L1 exam, Heasty had to first pass her standard ASE exams in electrical and engine performance. However, she took on the challenge and passed all eight areas of the automobile ASE exams to obtain Master Certification. It is an accomplishment that she set out to do after selecting San Jacinto College for her training in automotive technology.

"I chose the Toyota program because it's award winning and has a great reputation," said Heasty, who began working for Community Toyota in Baytown and the Delorean Motor Company in Humble before graduating from San Jacinto College.

It is the San Jacinto College automotive technology department's mission to place students in jobs during and upon completion of the program.

"Out of this class, everyone is working," said Tran. "Everybody has a job. That is what it is all about."

The San Jacinto College automotive technology program is located at the Central Campus. For more information, visit sanjac.edu/career/automotive-technology.
