Noted author Parsons to visit San Jacinto College

Noted writer Alexander Parsons, author of the novels “Leaving Disneyland” and “In the Shadows of the Sun,” will visit San Jacinto College on Wednesday, March 4 for readings, and a book signing.

Parsons’ presentations will be held in the Monument Room, located in the student center at the North Campus, 5800 Uvalde Road.

Formerly an editor and freelance writer in New York, Washington D.C., and South America, his first novel “Leaving Disneyland,” was published after winning a 2001 Association of Writers and Writing Programs award. His second novel, “In the Shadows of the Sun,” was chosen a 2005 Barnes & Noble “Discover Great New Writers” selection. Before joining the creative writing program at the University of Houston, Parsons taught in the MFA program at the University of New Hampshire.

Parsons will be reading from his works at 10:15 a.m., and there will be a book signing at 11 a.m. He will conduct a workshop at 11:45 a.m. Light refreshments will be available.

The event is free and open to the public. Parsons’ visit is an English department “Storytellers in the Marketplace” event.
