Barbosa, Ihenacho pick up regional soccer honors

Three members of the San Jacinto College men’s soccer team have been designated regional and team award winners.
Sophomore defender Ian Barbosa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil / Colegio Icaro RJ) and freshman defender Prince Ihenacho (Houston / Alief Elsik HS) have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All Region XIV team. Barbosa finished the season with two goals and one assist for five points and was also named this year’s team MVP. Last year, he also participated in the United Soccer League’s (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) Southern Conference and national championships as a defender for the Laredo Heat.
Freshman defender Roberto Diaz Fernandez (Madrid, Spain / Maria Inmaculada) was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year, ending the season with two goals and one assist for five points. Both Ihenacho and Fernandez are part of a large returning class for the 2015 season.
