Auditions for child actors on Nov. 16 and 17 at the Central Campus

PASADENA, Texas – The San Jacinto College Department of Theatre and Film is looking for elves for its annual Christmas show.

Auditions for 50 children, from ages 4 to 16, will take place on the Central Campus in the Powell Arena Theatre on Nov. 16 and 17, starting at 6 p.m. Materials need not be prepared in advance, and all those auditioning should dress to move. There is no fee for participation, and the auditions are open to children from anywhere; no registration at the College is required.

Once selected, the Children’s Elf Chorus actors will be required to attend four evenings of rehearsals and will appear in up to six scenes in the show. “Santa’s Christmas Magic: The Musical” performances are set for Dec. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m., and on Dec. 4 and 11 at 2:30 p.m. Special day matinee performances will be performed for area schools and day cares on Dec. 1 and 2.

“The older actors were cast several weeks ago and have been working hard learning lines, songs and dances,” said Dr. Jerry Ivins, artistic director for the musical. “Now the artistic team for the musical is hoping to cast local children who have one week of evenings open for rehearsals. We encourage all children who can sing, dance, tumble, act, or that just have an interest in theatre to come out. No experience is necessary.”

Further information about the auditions may be obtained by calling 281-542-2039. To become a fan of the Theatre and Film program on Facebook, visit facebook.com/SJCC.Theatre.Film.
