San Jacinto College South Campus Provost Dr. Brenda Jones received the national Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction and the Texas regional Hallmark Award for her outstanding campus leadership in supporting the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society.

Award recipients are honored for promoting the national and regional goals and initiatives of PTK, encouraging their campus’ chapter development and supporting student leadership opportunities and professional development.

Jones, a former PTK member, knows first-hand the advantages of being involved in PTK and the opportunities it provides for students.

“I’m fortunate to have experience with PTK both as a former community college student and now as a college administrator,” said Jones. “I can speak firsthand on the competitive edge that being a PTK member affords our students for ensuring their future success. Our students have an opportunity to not only develop their servant leadership skills but also to become part of a network of nearly 3 million fellow scholars and servant leaders worldwide. Being part of PTK was one of my most cherished experiences as a community college student and I’m always excited to share that with our students as they become examples of excellence in this great organization.”

Under Jones’ administration as the San Jacinto College South Campus Provost, the Alpha Gamma Zeta PTK chapter has received a number of international, national and regional awards including Five-Star Chapter, Top 100 chapter, Most Distinguished College Project and an Honors in Action award. In addition, their chapter also had two members receive a PTK Coca-Cola Leader of Promise Scholarship and had several students, including Jones, inducted into the PTK District IV Hall of Honor.
