Jenkins nabs Region XIV volleyball player of the week honors

PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College freshman outside hitter Kerstin Jenkins has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIV volleyball player of the week for the week of Oct. 5 - 12, 2014.

Jenkins averaged 6.67 kills per set, along with a .556 hitting percentage, three blocks, and seven digs, in San Jacinto College’s win over Lamar State – Port Arthur. It was the only match of the week for San Jac, in which it won 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18).

“Kerstin helped energize the team to earn the win over Lamar State – Port Arthur,” said 13th year Head Coach Sharon Nelson. “She entered the match with fire and energy to really spark our team.”

San Jacinto College (15-10, 4-2) will head South to Beeville and Laredo to play Coastal Bend Community College on Friday at 6 p.m., and then Laredo Community College on Saturday at 12 p.m. San Jac returns home for its final home game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when it welcomes #2 Blinn College to Anders Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College Central Campus.
