Foundation set to host 22nd annual golf tournament: Sponsorships available for Oct. 10 event

HOUSTON – The 22nd Annual San Jacinto College Foundation Golf Tournament will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Golf Club of Houston, home to the prestigious PGA Tour’s Houston Open.

The annual charity event provides scholarship funding for San Jacinto College students through event sponsorships and a tournament raffle. Last year’s tournament raised $245,000 benefitting scholarships and student success program support. Current tournament sponsors include the Albemarle Foundation, Albemarle Corporation, Austin Commercial, Goldman Sachs, Lubrizol, Steven Cowart, Texas Citizens Bank and Huitt-Zollars, Inc.

Students like LaDazeja Charles have a greater chance of completing their degree or certificate with the support of scholarships. “The San Jacinto College Foundation and my scholarship donor have provided me with a priceless gift that will be cherished,” said Charles, a Promise for Their Future scholarship recipient. “This scholarship has given me the assurance of future success, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”

This year’s tournament will feature the Fairways to a Brighter Future raffle. Participants can purchase tickets for $100 each for a chance to win a $10,000 grand prize shopping spree. The drawing will be held at the tournament on Tuesday, October 10 at 11:30 a.m., at the Golf Club of Houston. Various second prize drawing will take place immediately after. Participants need not be present to win.

Each year at the golf tournament, the Foundation honors one of its members with a Lifetime Legacy Award, commemorating the recipient’s years of service to the Foundation which have helped change students’ lives through access to education. This year’s Lifetime Legacy Award will be presented to Dr. Gerald Cobb, former educator and superintendent of Galena Park ISD and co-founder and retired chairman of Woodforest National Bank. Cobb has been a generous supporter of the Foundation since 1996. He served as the first chairman from 1996-1999, was a Foundation board member for 21 years and was recently named Emeritus.

The 22nd annual San Jacinto College Foundation Golf Tournament will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Golf Club of Houston located at 5860 Wilson Road in Humble, Texas.
