Baseball now 2-1 at JUCO World Series

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – The San Jacinto College baseball team is 2-1 at the 2018 Alpine Bank Junior College (JUCO) World Series, and will play today for a chance to compete for its sixth national title.

San Jac (51-14) faces either elimination with a loss in today’s game, or a shot at a national title with a win. San Jac will face the College of Southern Idaho at 4 p.m. CDT Thursday afternoon. Overall, this is the 26thJUCO World Series appearance for San Jac, which has won five national titles and finished as national runner-up on 10 occasions.

San Jac defeated Monroe College 11-1 on Wednesday for a second time in the tournament to earn the match up with Southern Idaho today. Sophomore right fielder Jordan Myrow(Los Angeles, California / Notre Dame HS / UCLA) led San Jac with 2 hits in 3 at-bats, including 3 RBI and scoring one run. DH Peter Zimmermann(St. Louis, Missouri / Chaminade College Prep / St. Louis University) also had 2 hits in 3 at-bats in the win, with one RBI and scoring 3 runs.

On the mound, sophomore left-hander Rylan Kaufman(Friendswood, Texas / Friendswood HS) pitched all 6 innings, striking out 5 and allowing 1 hit and 1 run scored.

Coming off a Region XIV win in which National Junior College Athletic Association(NJCAA) Hall of Fame Head Coach Tom Arringtonwas named the Region XIV Coach of the Year, San Jac is looking for its sixth ever baseball national title. The last two seasons, San Jac has been the national runner-up.

The 2018 Alpine Bank JUCO World Series runs through Saturday, June 2, at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado. Live game stats and other information is available online on the JUCO World Series website. The 2018 national title game will be streamed live online by mlb.com.
