PASADENA, Texas – Four San Jacinto College men’s basketball players earned post-season honors with spots on the All-Region and All-Region South Zone teams.

Bennett HS), Ilker Er (Istanbul, Turkey / Arlington Country Day), and Candido Sa (Lisbon Portugal / Colegio Bartolomeou Dias) were each named Region XIV South Zone Honorable Mention.

Davis, a 6-2 freshman guard, was second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game, and led the squad in assists per game with a 5.8 mark.

The 6-1 freshman guard Duffy ranked 17th in the region in scoring at 14.4 points per game, which led the San Jac team. He also ranked in the top 20 in the league in field goal percentage (19th at 48.9 percent), three-pointers made (20th at 31), three-point percentage (7th at 42.5 percent), and total assists (14th at 64).

Sophomore forward Sa led the league and nation in total blocks with 68 against conference opponents, and 123 overall. He averaged 9.9 points and 7.7 rebounds against Region XIV opponents.

“This is a great honor for these four outstanding basketball players,” said San Jacinto College Head Coach Scott R. Gernander, who just completed his fourth season at the helm of the San Jac men’s basketball program. “They were leaders on our team this season, both on and off the court, and are extremely deserving of this recognition by the league.”

San Jac finished the season with a 22-10 overall record, 12-7 in Region XIV play, advancing to the semifinals of the Region XIV tournament in Lufkin. Tryouts for the 2016-2017 season are scheduled for Saturday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Anders Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College Central Campus.
